With the increase in corporate consolidation of radio stations, the FCC has developed the class D radio license for low-power FM and Part 15 AM radio stations with the hope that the decreased cost of operating a station under this license would encourage smaller and less financially-able broadcasters to get on the air. But then they have further regulated this license, saying that any LPFM or Part 15 station should be non-commercial. This has created the stereotype that LPFM should be more educational than anything else, so a lot of stations nowadays sound more like NPR's music programming than a locally-focused community radio station. Are there any LPFM stations streaming on the Web that try to break this mold and present unique programming?
